Around 50 cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident left him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
